EXCITING
NEW RESTAURANT OPENING AT THE END OF JUNE.
Justin
& Jenny are opening O’Brien Chop House (formerly the
much-loved Barca) in Lismore at the end of June.
O’Brien
Chop House will be an unpretentious eatery that offers diners traditional
and robust Irish recipes in a wonderfully atmospheric old Victorian
pub. The ingredients will be sourced locally and served simply
at very affordable prices.
The
word O’Brien is the original
name of the premises and is imprinted above the main window. The
Chop House part has been borrowed from London’s old chop
houses where you could sample a variety of chops, cutlets and steaks
on the bone. At O’Brien Chop House, we will always have an
assortment of chops, cutlets, steaks and pies on the menu. Seafood
dishes will also feature including seasonal oysters and whole fish
cooked on the bone.

The
ingredients will be carefully sourced from the local area; beef,
lamb, mutton and pork from Michael McGrath on the main street;
bacon, sausages and puddings from Caherbeg Free Range Pork Ltd;
seafood from Ballycotton Seafood and O’Connell’s in
the English Market, Cork City; game in season from nearby Ballynatray
Estate; vegetables and soft fruit home-grown in Ballyvolane House’s
walled kitchen garden and from H.R. Dowd in Lismore. We are keen
foragers so expect lots of wild food. Local beekeepers will provide
honey. Eggs from Ballyvolane’s flock of hens will be used
for baking and breakfast.
O’Brien
Chop House will be open for late breakfast, morning coffees, lunch,
afternoon tea, teatime, dinner and ‘in-between time’ snacks,
traditional Sunday lunch roasts, feasting menus for groups. Menus
will change daily and homemade jams, relishes, chutneys and fruit
cordials will also be available for sale.
We
have not altered the place at all and the original snug, shelving
behind the bar, the bar counter and stained-glass paneling are
all as they were. We have painted the entire place, re-varnished
the floor and tidied up the garden.
O’Brien
Chop House will be operated by Justin & Jenny
Green of Ballyvolane House. Website and contact details coming
soon. In the meantime, for more information, please contact Justin
Green on 025 36349 or info@ballyvolanehouse.ie.
Looking
forward to welcoming you back in soon and we hope you like it.
